Simple way to talk and view--

I've been thinking about the whole VOIP thing and it seems a little complicated. BUT how about just hooking up a cheap IP camera with an internal mic on each of two nodes.  It seems like a $30 Dlink 930 would do the trick.  You'd just have to have a headset at each end to avoid audio feedback.  Anyone doing voice comm this way?

The browser is doing that because it doesn't know the hostname. What IP address does your PC have (with wifi disabled)?

I used  localnode:8080 and other noted permutations such as:

                      localnode.local.mesh:8080

                      wd4hxg-Sterling.local.mesh:8080

In the end with localnode:8080 entered in the browser

address URL field the browser timed out and displayed
the text you observed in the out take. Not sure why it
changing. If I discover the reason I will post it.

this assumes that you are running firmware 3.x

You might be missing the time ranges by holding it too long. (more is not always better) The hold time ranges/functions are: 3-7 secs to reset password and enable dhcp (basic reset) 12-20 secs to reset to INITIAL state (where you need to specify your callsign and password) If these don't work, you can always do a TFTP firmware load.

On the WRT54GLs that I was given, they have version: 1.0.0. I want to bring them up to the latest version. I found the instructions and software downloads. I have Internet access, but have read that the Linksys cannot do the remote update due to limited memory (I do not know if this is always the case or not). Anyone know the answer to this?

Within the Administration page under Firmware Update, I found the following versions are available:

1. patch-3.1.0.tgz
2. bbhn-3.1.0-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx
3. bbhn-3.0.0-brcm-2.4-squashfs.trx
4. bbhn-1.0.0-brcm.trx

From the software downloads page already mentioned, the list is much longer. So, my question is this. To get from 1.0.0.0 to the latest (I presume 3.1.0), do I need to do multiple updates to get from 1.0.0 to 2.4 to 3.1.0 or can I go direct? In other words, which do I update with and which order (if multiple)?

Excellent, thank you . . . instead of doing "setpasswd abc" (which did not seem to work for the password I entered), I did the "cat /etc/httpd.conf" (figured out why my password did not work, or at least it appeared it did not like some of the characters I entered).

Someone gave me a couple of Linksys WRT54GL routers with HSMM-Mesh already installed. They changed the root password from hsmm to something that they do not remember. The instructions I found include installing from the factory image (not installed) or from the setup tab (which I do not have access to). My computers are Windows based. How to I reinstall or install a newer version without that access? If I need something on my computer (such as TFTP), which would you recommend? I have tried the standard way or resetting the router to reset the password, but that does not seem to work. I know the end of life for these have passed, just wanting to play until I can dig up Ubiquity or other routers.

Thanks for taking the time to provide the method to

reset the device. Unfortunately it gave me the NATO

salute aka foreign military salute.

OK ---- Here is what I did.

1 Disconnect laptop wireless access to internet.

2 Set Wired LAN on laptop to DHCP

3 Pulled cable on Ubiquiti Bullet at the device for about two minutes

4 Reconnected Wired LAN Cable to Ubiquiti device.

5 Depressed Reset switch for about 10 seconds (if 5 works than 10 should work doubly good.)  :-)

6 Connected LAN cable to laptop.

7 Entered http://localnode:8080 in the URL line of the browser (Firefox)

8 The following screen pops up after timing out:

Checking IPCONFIG I have a non-routeable 169.X.X.X address on the Laptop NIC connected to the Ubiquiti device.

Getting very frustrated. Not to the point of putting the device on the drill press and going for maximum smoke but ideating it.   :-)
